07:53 pm - Soldiers Pay too Much? WFT is this woman thinking?!?!
Body: Someone should stand up and give this man props! Read on and tell me if you're as proud as I am.
This is an Airman's response to Cindy Williams' editorial piece in the Washington Times about MILITARY PAY, it should be printed in all newspapers across America.
On Nov. 12, Ms Cindy Williams (from Laverne and Shirley TV show) wrote a piece for the Washington Times, denouncing the pay raise coming service members' way this year -- citing that the stated 13% wage was more than they deserve.
A young airman from Hill AFB responds to her article below. He ought to get a bonus for this.
I just had the pleasure of reading your column, "Our GIs earn enough" and I am a bit confused. Frankly, I'm wondering where this vaunted overpayment is going, because as far as I can tell, it disappears every month between DFAS (The Defense Finance and Accounting Service) and my bank account.
Checking my latest earnings statement I see that I make $1,117.80 before taxes. After taxes, I take home $874.20. When I run that through the calculator, I come up with an annual salary of $13,413.60 before taxes, and $10,490.40, after.
I work in the Air Force Network Control Center where I am part of the team responsible for a 5,000 host computer network. I am involved with infrastructure segments, specifically with Cisco Systems equipment. A quick check under jobs for Network Technicians in the Washington, D.C. area reveals a position in my career field, requiring three years experience with my job. Amazingly, this job does NOT pay $13,413.60 a year. No, this job is being offered at $70,000 to $80,000 per annum... I'm sure you can draw the obvious conclusions.
Given the tenor of your column, I would assume that you NEVER had the pleasure of serving your country in our armed forces. Before you take it upon yourself to once more castigate congressional and DOD leadership for attempting to get the families in the military's lowest pay brackets off of WIC and food stamps, I suggest that you join a group of deploying soldiers headed for AFGHANISTAN; I leave the choice of service branch up to you.
Whatever choice you make, though, opt for the SIX month rotation: it will guarantee you the longest possible time away from your family and friends, thus giving you full "deployment experience." As your group prepares to board the plane, make sure to note the spouses and children who are saying good-bye to their loved ones. Also take care to note that several families are still unsure of how they'll be able to make ends meet while the primary breadwinner is gone -- obviously they've been squandering the "vast" piles of cash the government has been giving them.
Try to deploy over a major holiday; Christmas and Thanksgiving are perennial favorites. And when you're actually over there, sitting in a foxhole, shivering against the cold desert night; and the flight sergeant tells you that there aren't enough people on shift to relieve you for chow, remember this: trade whatever MRE (meal-ready-to-eat) you manage to get for the tuna noodle casserole or cheese tortellini, and add Tabasco to everything. This gives some flavor. Talk to your loved ones as often as you are permitted; it won't nearly be long enough or often enough, but take what you can get and be thankful for it.
You may have picked up on the fact that I disagree with most of the points you present in your opined piece.
But, tomorrow from KABUL, I will defend to the death your right to say it.
You see, I am an American fighting man, a guarantor of your First Amendment rights and every other right you cherish. On a daily basis, my brother and sister soldiers worldwide ensure that you and people like you can thumb your collective nose at us, all on a salary that is nothing short of pitiful and under conditions that would make most people cringe. We hemorrhage our best and brightest into the private sector because we can't offer the stability and pay of civilian companies.
And you, Ms. Williams, have the gall to say that we make more than we deserve? Rubbish!
A1C Michael Bragg Hill AFB AFNCC
IF YOU AGREE, PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE AND SHOW OUR SUPPORT OF THE AMERICAN FIGHTING MEN AND WOMEN. THANK YOU.

06:58 pm - ROFLMFAO!!!!!
Yeah, it was that funny...
Okay... I don't want to get too into it, just know that it has to do with seeing that some people I knew in high school have lowered standards with their choice of mate. I just hope they are happy and won't get screwed in the end, but until I know for sure.... it's super funny. You know you always want the best for your friends and you don't want to see them with losers, so when it happens you feel bad but you still have to laugh.

04:39 am - Some people are just heartless...
I was watching the news and saw that there's people going around to soldiers funerals and protesting "that the reason they died is because God is mad that gays are allowed in the military." I mean come on.... there is a limit to free speech. You shouldn't go to someone's funeral and do stupid shit like that when they are the ones who defended, served, and gave their lives to keep your ass safe and to keep your freedoms.
I respect people's opinions and don't get me wrong... I have my own that other people might not agree with, but that is just inhumane to do! Doing stupid crap like that just makes the grieving have a harder time dealing with the death of their loved one.
At least I see that there are a group of people who are going to those funerals to keep those rejects protesting from getting within a certain distance of the funeral area. It's those people who need to be commended for showing their respect for those soldiers who have given their lives, and for helping keep the protestors away.
I feel really saddened by this, and my heart goes out to all the families who have been attacked by these protestors. I pray that you get the strength and hope you need to help you through the grieving process.

04:17 pm - Can someone help me make sense of this?
Okay... I play this online game, Star Wars Galaxies, and I would like to transfer my character to another account and server. My character is on my hubby's server so I want to have my own account and I also want to be able to play with him on his server, thus the reason for wanting to change. Some things you need to know is that my toon is a jedi and jedi's are FS (Force Sensitive), but they say that FS will be taken out the game and that anyone who just starts the game can pick jedi as the profession they want. Which means that all the hard work I put towards getting to jedi is given to new players right away. Well here's where I need help, the rules of transferring characters are VERY contradicting to me.
( RulesCollapse )
It doesn't make sense to say that you can't transfer a toon that is FS when they are getting rid of it, then to say in the rules that you can but that the toon will be stripped of it. I'm wanting to pay whatever to get my toon transferred to another account and server and I think this option should be for any player, not just new players. In 6 months of playing time, any player can get their toon to FS. So it's stupid to say that there's a time limit as well. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think what they are doing is fair and I hate that I'm being shafted for being a veteran of the game.
Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

02:42 am - BORED!!!
I have been so bored lately. I haven't been able to play my SWG game in almost 3 weeks. I'm having some sort of problem with my computer. It was working fine until the game did it's update, then it wouldn't log on to the server. After that, my computer started running really slow. I talked to the tech support people with SOE and they told me that if I have McAfee I need to uninstall it... that it's the cause of the problem. Well... stupid me listened to the dumb asses. It didn't work... my SWG game is still not working and my computer is still running slow. I tried reinstalling McAfee via AOL... since it's free with them, but it didn't work. I called AOL tech support and they told me to uninstall all the AOL and try reinstalling it. I did and when I go to click on the AOL icon, it tells me that some files need to be downloaded for the system to work so I download them. After it tells me to restart my computer so I do that. Then when I click the AOL icon again... it does the same dame crap over and over and over. I tried calling the AOL tech support people again but everytime they try and put me through to another person, they end up hanging up on me. WTF?!?!
So basically I was without any protection for my computer. I went through the company that I have my cable modem with (COX communications) and they have a free virus, firewall, etc thing. I download all that stuff and run the scan to see if there's viruses... there was like 4 so I got rid of those suckers. My SWG game is still not working and my computer is still hella slow. I don't know WTF is up but I want this shit fixed... and NOW!!!!
Why can't there be some program that will work and not screw up my computer? And why aren't there tech support people that actually know what the heck they are talking about? Why do people that you are paying money to have something that works not care that what you are paying for doesn't work wother shit? I mean come on... I'm not paying for a service that doesn't work! I'm not paying to play a game that I can't play! Why can't this shit work?!?! All I want is for my computer to be running like normal, for it to be protected against viruses and other shit like that, and to be able to play my SWG game!!!
I so don't want to pay for some retard that will end up screwing my computer up even more to come and... well... screw it up more! If anyone has any advice... I'd really appreciate it. I'm about to go crazy. I think I've tried everything I can think of to fix this problem. I've defragged my computer like 6 times, I've deleted shit that I don't need or that I don't think I need anymore, I've even done a cleanup of my computer, and I have called like 3 different tech support people (SOE, AOL, Compaq). Why oh why won't my computer run normal and my game work?

01:23 am - Drum roll please...
Troy and I FINALLY set a date for the wedding!!! We will say our I Do's on Saturday, July 24, 2004!!! YEAH!!! I'm so excited... except for the problem with my parents (long story).
Anyway... I saw my sister-in-law, Bonnie, Saturday, and she is going to help me plan the wedding. She's so excited... she just wants everything to be perfect for me. I love her! Ohhh... I picked the type of dress and veil I want... very simple (I'll post pics later). I seriously want Troy to wear his uniform (he'd look so cute), but I'm still talking him into it. I'm sure I'll get my way... hehe **devious grin** Anyway... I know how I want my hair and make-up (like Carmen Electra had hers for her wedding on "Til Death Do Us Part"). I know I want a white rose bouquet (sort of like the one Carmen Electra had, but white roses instead). Troy and I both want a plain white wedding cake (white cake with white icing... not too fancy). We haven't picked colors yet, and the guest list is most probably going to change (because if my parents decide to get involved, the guest list might increase... people they know). Right now, we just want it simple... immediate family and maybe some friends (the thing is that I really want to invite one of my aunts and uncles... but if I invite them, I have to invite all my aunts, uncles, and cousins).
I talked to the preacher about getting the church on the day, and he said to just call the office and set the date (thank goodness we don't have to pay for the church or the service... with me being a member of the church, it's free... we'll just give a donation to the church). And Bonnie will get the reception hall (most probably the KC Hall) for the date.
Troy picked who he wanted to be his best man (his friend Chris, who's in the ARMY with him), I already know I want Bonnie to be my maid of honor, Troy wants his nephew to be the ring barrier (there are no girls the right age to be the flower girl in either of our families), and my nephew will be an usher (but I wouldn't mind him being the ring barrier either... is there an age that's too old to be ring barrier? But then again... we might not even have a ring barrier or flower girl at all (we're not having a full bridal party).
So... it looks like there's going to be a wedding!
